Waiting for Goldenrod

Irmgard Willcockson

October 4, 2026

Summer heat lingers

long past its time.

The first hints of Fall -

cooler mornings

Blazing Stars stretch

amethyst spires

above the prairie

goldenrod unfurls

tall pale green with

swelling yellow buds

hawks kettle then

stream high across

the Gulf midday

Oh Goldenrod,

do you

long too

for golden hours cool

and your amber flowers buzzing?
