Notes on Rev. Milton Jordan’s Notes

– Stories and Memories from the Texas Pines, Utley & Jordan, editors

He showed me “the rivers” of words that flowed

between his “sandy hills” and “timber stands”

of thought.

He emptied his “pocket prairies,” full of treasured

stories about “the people . . . in the pine forests”

and love.

He took my hand when we crossed “their streams,”

so I would not slip ’way into my own bewildering,

dark thoughts.

He knew “the towns, and cities” of good souls,

“whose lives and lifeways are bound together”

with love.

He held fast “our moments . . . evermore” in poems

I read aloud, again, alone with him, as still within

his thoughts.

Jesse Doiron has worked in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia as an educator and consultant.
