Four Winds Discuss the Coming Year

An old and weakly wind said here,
“Sometimes winter loses,
and sometimes winter wins.
It’s hard to tell between the two,
so I prefer the end.”
So said the old and weakly wind.
A winsome wind beside her
spoke of spring and greeny things
and little beasts with wings and songs.
“Such happy, airy eagerness
to linger long within!”
So said a winsome wind.
A sultry wind smiled sucking in,
“But oh, what joy always comes,
when comes my summer friend!”
And well we knew whereof she spoke
when she sucked in again.
So said a sultry wind.
A harvest wind called out in gusts,
“Have you forgotten fall
and how it teases trees to blush
in colorful confetti leaves
with scents of cinnamon?”
So said the harvest wind.
